Lead like you never have before

This entry is part 2 of 2 in the series Authentic Manhood

What does it take for men to step into their role of leadership? Why do we sit back and coast when we should take the reins and take control of situations around us? To me, this is infuriating, not only because so many around me do it, but also because I am guilty of it myself. Is this attitude what God had intended in His creation of man?

Certainly not! In Genesis, Adam was created first and given the job of naming the creatures that God created. God appointed Adam leader and gave his immense responsibility. It was his job to stop Eve from taking the apple and eating it. Wait…what? When the Lord comes back, after Adam and Eve had eaten the fruit, who does the Lord call on? He calls on Adam because he is the leader and it is his responsibility alone. I cannot imagine any women who would not want to be lead by a man who would save her from certain disaster.

I am not going to side-step here and go over how a man should lead and not rule over his wife… I’ll write about that another time because were focusing on Adams inaction. In Genesis 3:19 it is clear, that Adam was not absent from the conversation with the serpent, but he was with her, listening and not acting. His inaction has paved the way for the inaction of men today. God created man perfect and then sin entered the world, destroying any example of how a perfect man should be, leading those around him, and never being silent. Or do we have an example of a perfect man?

Jesus Christ is our only example of a perfect man. From birth to death, his life was perfect and the exact representation of God’s intent when he created man. Christ was not silent. He spoke out and changed the world. As men, we are called to emulate Christ and it should be our number one goal in life. We are called to lead those around us. We have influence in our friends and families! Lead and do not be silent. Lead and help others know Christ as you do! Lead and protect those who cannot protect themselves! Lead and impact those around you!

A man who takes his role seriously, huh?

  1. Hey LB,

Good series here. Great men are those who serve others, not themselves. If Jesus served, then so must we. :)
